Save and sign in with passkeys on Windows

Learn how to save passkeys in 1Password and use them to sign in to your accounts on your Windows PC.

Passkeys are an easier and more secure alternative to passwords. You can use 1Password for Windows to save the passkeys you create for your accounts and sign in with passkeys in apps and on websites on your PC.

Turn on passkey support in Windows

Before you can use the 1Password app to save and sign in with passkeys on your Windows PC, you need to turn on support for passkeys in Windows Settings.

  1. Öffne und entsperre die 1Password-App.

  3. Select Autofill, then select Show passkey suggestions.

    Get help if you don’t see these options.

  4. Turn on 1Password as a passkey manager in the Windows Settings app.

Einen Passkey speichern

To save a passkey, find an existing Login item that supports passkeys using Watchtower or create a new account in an app or on a website that supports passkeys. Depending on the app or website, you may need to create an account with a username and password before you can create a passkey.

When you choose the option to create a passkey, Windows will offer for you to save it in 1Password. If you have an existing Login item for the website saved in 1Password, you can choose to update it by adding the passkey. Or you can save the passkey as a new item.

Sign out of the app or website, then follow the steps to sign back in using a passkey. When you see the list of your passkeys saved in 1Password, select the one you want to use.

Einen Passkey löschen

Wichtig

When you delete a passkey saved in 1Password, it won’t be removed from your account on the website or service. Make sure to follow the appropriate steps to remove a passkey on a website when you delete it in 1Password.

Um einen Passkey zu löschen:

  1. Find the Login item for the passkey in 1Password and select Edit.
  2. Select beside the passkey field, then select Save.

    Wenn dein Anmelde-Element kein Passwort enthält, kannst du das Element stattdessen löschen.

Unterstützung erhalten

Support for passkeys in 1Password for Windows requires:

  • An up-to-date version of Windows 11.
  • 1Password for Windows installed with the MSIX installer.

If you don’t see the option to turn on passkey support, make sure your Windows PC and the 1Password app are up to date. If the option is still missing in the 1Password app, open the Windows Settings app and choose Accounts. Scroll down and select Passkeys, then select Advanced options and turn on 1Password.

If 1Password doesn’t offer to save your passkey in a supported app or on a supported website, contact 1Password Support and include information about the app or website where you’re trying to save a passkey.

You can only export passkeys in 1Password for iOS at this time. If you choose to export your 1Password data with the 1Password desktop apps, make sure to also follow the steps to create new passkeys on each website where you saved a passkey in 1Password. Then save the new passkeys in a different location, like in your PC’s built-in passkey manager.

If you don’t want to use 1Password for Windows save or sign in with passkeys, follow the steps to turn on the feature and turn off 1Password as a passkey manager in the Windows Settings app.
